National Children’s Day is celebrated in over 50 countries across the world, including New Zealand, America, Thailand and India; however a day to officially recognise our children and the contribution that they make to society does not exist in Wales or even the UK.
The LC, Swansea's premier leisure complex and waterpark in 2009 launched Wales’ 1st ever National Children’s Day in order to acknowledge the value of children and to encourage parents to see the importance of giving them love, protection and respect, and spending quality time together.
The LC would like to thank all who took part last year and made it such a special day. Over £2000 was raised for Ty Hafan Family Hospice for Young Lives.
"China celebrate National Children’s day by operating half day at schools and usually hold activities such as camping trips or free film screenings and in Nigeria children are selected to represent their schools in a march past for state officials."
By promoting healthy and happy children and strengthening families through the support of our local communities, we can keep children safe and well. We are urging all parents, families and communities to take time to celebrate children each year on this day.
"In a recent survey at the LC, 80% of children said they’d like to spend more time with their parents."
"Did you know that on average parents spend just 20 minutes a day with their children?"
The LC partnered with Ty Hafan children’s Hospice - who were the events official charity -and celebrated the day by opening its doors and all its activities to everyone allowing families to take part in activities together.
"89% of children would rather spend a day having fun with their parents than watching T.V. or playing computer games."
