Welcome to the iZone
1 Sep 2010
The LC has launched a revolutionary new concept in youth health and fitness with its unique iZone – a fun, interactive workout area aimed at 11 to 15 year olds.
The iZone will be the first of its kind in Wales and is based adjacent to the LC’s state-of-the-art gym. The concept is designed to capture the interest secondary school students have in the latest computer technology and use this to help promote an active lifestyle amongst the age group.
The iZone features the latest developments in interactive fitness technology, including Nintendo Wii’s, Dance Mats, Expresso Bikes and a Batak Wall, and will also be available for existing gym members to use at no additional cost. Many of the features also have the option to compete with other users, recording top scores on a members only leaderboard.
Although many young people will have come across the more familiar Wii’s and Dance Mats, many of the iZone’s features will be a new experience for even the most computer game literate.
With the Expresso Bikes, riders can personalise their experience over 30 virtual courses, compete with friends, track their progress and celebrate their accomplishments with virtual awards. The Batak Board has been used to test and improve the reactions of high performance drivers, highlighting the needs of spatial awareness, peripheral vision and motor reactions in the area.
The iZone will operate its own class timetable, initially featuring 13 group sessions, which include Dynamite Circuits – utilising the rowers, bikes, Wii, Easyline, Batak and Speed Agility & Quickness (SAQ) equipment; Time Attack - racing on both the bikes and the rowers; Wii Athletics – an Olympic-style fitness programme and Dance Mat Mania. A street dance class, without mats, taken by a qualified dance instructor, will also be available to members.
